Ambitus

Every app was an island

26 October 2026 · Robert Stollar

For ten years I looked for one app. It didn't exist, so I built it.

Not a better task manager. Not a better notes app. One app where my tasks, calendar, lists and notes live together. I tried a lot of them. For tasks: Things, Notion, GoodTask, Apple's Reminders, Sorted. For notes: Apple Notes, Evernote, Notability, Goodnotes, Milanote. And more I've forgotten. Many of them are excellent at what they do. That was never the problem.

The problem was that each one was an island. My tasks in one app, the notes behind them in another, the dates in a third. Sync that didn't quite match. Files that wouldn't open anywhere else. Copying, exporting, importing — and ten apps open at once.

It got worse when I started building automations for small businesses. One project meant workflows to design, research to keep, plans and versions to track, what worked and what failed, keys and logins to keep safe. Personal projects and work projects, all needing the same thing: plan it, check it, do it, keep it. Maybe some of those apps do more today. But I needed something that worked then, not maybe one day.

So I built it.

It's called Ambitus: tasks, calendar, lists and notes in one app, on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch. It works with Apple's own Reminders and Calendar, and your notes stay as files in your own iCloud Drive. Over the next weeks I'll share why each part of it exists. Every feature started as something I needed and couldn't find.

If you've ever had five apps open just to run one project, I'd like to hear which ones.
